Nov 02, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court of Nepal has expressed serious concern over recent media and social media reports naming the Chief Justice and other Supreme Court justices.
At a full-court meeting on Monday, the Court adopted a five-point decision urging the relevant authorities to conduct an independent and impartial investigation and make their findings public as soon as possible. It said the inquiry should be free from bias and carried out in accordance with the Constitution and the law.
The Court reaffirmed its commitment to the supremacy of the Constitution and the law. It also pledged to meet its legal accountability obligations and fully cooperate with any lawful investigation into the published and broadcast reports.
Emphasizing that public trust is the foundation of the judiciary, the Court urged media outlets to report on judicial matters responsibly and avoid creating confusion among the public and court users.
It also asked the media and others not to condemn anyone or publish material that could obstruct the administration of justice before the investigation’s conclusions are known.
The Court urged judicial officers across the country to continue their regular work without being distracted by recent reports.
The decisions were announced in a press statement issued by Supreme Court spokesperson and joint registrar Dr. Ashok Kumar Chhetri.
