We are reducing  price of the internet soon: Minister of Communications

February 28, Kathmandu-  Minister for Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung has said that the government is conducting a necessary study to reduce the price of internet. Speaking at the 27th general assembly of the CAN Federation held in Kathmandu on Saturday, he expressed the government's commitment to reduce the price of the internet in the near future.

‘Internet service has not been effective as it is expensive. The government is doing its homework to make it less costly and effective, ”he said.

Stating that Digital Nepal Framework has been brought for the development of e-commerce, e-education, health, and all sector, he said that its effective implementation will draw a new blueprint for the development of the country.

‘Citizen app is a link to that. We are moving forward with the goal of a paperless office and service without a physical presence, ”he said.

According to Minister Gurung, there is no alternative to digital development to end economic irregularities and corruption, save time and provide facilities to service recipients and the general public. He said that the government has given priority to making the telecommunication service effective and quality internet.

He expressed confidence that along with the development of telecommunication and the internet, other dimensions of information technology would also reach remote villages. "The government has recently made a policy decision to extend optical fiber to remote districts," he said, adding that "it is our policy to connect every local body's ward office, school, and health post to the internet as soon as possible."

He said that it would create infrastructure for all kinds of development and open the door for investment and business expansion in hilly and mountainous districts as well. He also mentioned that businessmen and people's representatives need in-depth training on computers, the internet, and other subjects.

Minister Gurung said that the Ministry of Communications was ready to assist the CAN in planning and proposing such training. Stating that there is a tendency in the telecommunications sector to build infrastructure with government money and use it as private, he stressed the need to discourage it.

"We blame the tower for not picking up the telephone. We do not question the intent or technology of the service provider. So it is important to make consumers aware, 'he said.

Minister Gurung's point of view is that not the fault of the geographer but the fault of the businessman. "Such problems of the people need to be raised by the CAN Federation," he said.

On the occasion of the General Assembly, CAN Federation honored the best district committees of the organization. In which Parsa came first, Jhapa second, and Rupandehi third.
